Broadband To The Boonies
Several small communities in Tennessee are struggling with loss of manufacturing jobs, and now claim to have found a silver bullet to fix the problem: Broadband internet access. Economic development consultants are touting high-speed internet as a must-have, and rural county administrators are buying it hook, line and sinker. I suspect manufacturing sweatshops in China, India and Mexico will soon begin to yield to the technical supremacy of rural Tennessee. If not, at least there's a $2 billion tax dollar boon to entepreneurs willing to lay fiber optic to every doublewide on hills and hollers.
